Natalie Sutherland

Natalie Sutherland advises clients on the whole spectrum of family law issues, including divorce and dissolution, financial remedy applications, cohabitation claims for unmarried couples, complex children matters, international and domestic relocation disputes, surrogacy, co-parenting and fertility law, Schedule 1 (money) applications for children, variation of maintenance applications, freezing injunctions and proceedings relating to domestic violence or occupation of the family home.

Natalie started out her career at boutique family law firm, Levison Meltzer Pigott, where she spent 9 years working directly with one of the founders dealing with high net worth clients and matters with complex legal issues.

Prior to joining Burgess Mee as a Partner, Natalie was Head of the Family Department at a firm in the City which is well known for their work in surrogacy and fertility law as well as LGBTQ+ issues. Natalie handled complex surrogacy matters, both UK based and international and has sensitively and successfully dealt with surrogacy journeys where one party has changed their mind.

Natalie now spearheads the firm’s modern families’ department where she deals with surrogacy, assisted reproduction law including donor conception and advises in respect of platonic co-parenting and known donor agreements.

Natalie has a particular interest in all matters relating to children law. She has experience in handling leave to remove applications, fact finding hearings and dealing with cases involving intransigent parents and parental alienation. Natalie has dealt with many cases where addiction has featured, in both money and children cases.

Equally comfortable litigating and negotiating, Natalie relishes the challenge of finding creative and cost-effective solutions for her clients.

Natalie is a Resolution accredited specialist in children law and complex higher income financial remedies.

Natalie has recently joined the Board of Trustees of Progress Educational Trust, a charity which advances public understanding of science, law and ethics in the fields of human genetics, assisted reproduction, embryology and stem cell research.
