Burgess Mee is pleased to have been commended for family law in The Times Best Law Firms 2024 – a list of the top 250 legal practices in England, Wales and Scotland, which was voted for by lawyers. The firm has been included in the guide since its inception.

The Times comments: ‘From offices in London, this specialist family law firm acted for Olga Cazalet, otherwise known as Angela Jilina, the wife of Walid Abu-Zalaf, who successfully sought to rescind a nine-year-old decree nisi, the step before the full legal end of a marriage, on the basis of a reconciliation and set aside a previous financial order. The Court of Appeal reversed a previous High Court ruling in favour of Abu-Zalaf in September.

‘The firm advised on the drafting and enforcement of prenuptial agreements for many wealthy individuals, including two clients with assets in excess of £500 million. It is also advising two separating clients on the impact of their prenuptial agreements.

‘Burgess Mee represented the parents of a 22-year-old student who fell into a coma after having a stroke and who had applied for the extraction and storage of his sperm to enable them to create posthumous grandchildren with the assistance of a surrogate. However, in the Court of Protection, the judge, Mr Justice Poole, said that there was insufficient evidence of the student’s wishes and ruled that the procedure “would not be in the interests of the man” and would be “an invasion of his privacy”.’
