About Katy

Katy joined Burgess Mee as a solicitor in November 2022. She read Law at Pembroke College, Cambridge and then went on to do her Masters of Law at SOAS, University of London specialising in Law and Gender. Her dissertation closely analysed The Gender Recognition Act 2004 and its proposals for reform.

Katy began working in family law after her masters and obtained a distinction in her Legal Practice Course whilst working full time as a paralegal and trainee. Her previous work in other London firms focussed on children law including private children matters with an element of domestic abuse and particularly public children matters and international child abduction. Katy has had experience of advocating for clients in meetings with social services and conducting advocacy on behalf of vulnerable clients to obtain protective injunctive orders relating to domestic abuse.

Katy is a member of Resolution, an organisation for family lawyers which promotes a constructive and non-confrontational approach to family law cases. She is a member of Resolution’s National Domestic Abuse Committee and is Vice Chair of the committee.

Outside of work, Katy loves to swim and enjoys London’s galleries, gigs, ballet and theatre. She also loves to travel and spend time back in her native Scotland, especially by the coast.
